Dolly Parton defends her Kid Rock feature and opposes cancel culture

Dolly Parton worked with 40 artists for her current album “Rockstar”. She sings the song “Either or” with Kid Rock – a duet that she has to defend again and again.

Reason for this: Kid Rock, arch-conservative Republican, Trump fan and, above all, “wokeness” opponent, posted a controversial video on his Instagram profile. The clip was his response to a collaboration with beer brand Bud Light with trans activist and influencer Dylan Mulvaney, who is featured on a personalized beer can with a portrait. In response to At the end of the video, he stuck his middle finger up at the camera and shouted, “Fuck Bud Light. Fuck Anheuser-Busch. Have a nice day.”

She stands by her decision

Now Parton has said in an interview with “The Hollywood Reporter“ explains why she continues to be a duet on the album. She says the song was recorded before the Bud Light incident and goes on to put it this way: “Someone was talking to me the other day: How could you do that song with Kid? I said, Hey, just because I love you doesn’t mean I don’t love Kid Rock. Just because I love Kid Rock doesn’t mean I don’t love you. I don’t judge or criticize. I just accept and love.”

The singer continues: “Like I said, I’ve had this before [vor dem Vorfall] but I probably would have done it anyway because he’s a talented guy and this song is about a bad boy. But like I said, I love everyone. I don’t criticize, I don’t tolerate or condemn. I just accept. But just because I love you doesn’t mean I don’t love Kid Rock the way God does.”

In their opinion, cancel culture is terrible

She answers the question of how the singer feels about cancel culture with: “I think that’s terrible. We all make mistakes. Not everyone gets caught. But if someone is caught making a mistake, it depends on who they are.”

The 77-year-old uses her faith as a guideline: Since I am a religious person, I see it that way. Many people don’t do this, but everyone deserves a second chance. They deserve to remain innocent until proven guilty. Even if they are proven guilty, if God can forgive them, so can I. If God can forgive them, we should all forgive each other.”

Album features with music legends

The album “Rockstars” will be released on November 17, 2023 and is a compilation of new songs and covers of classics such as “Magic Man” by Heart, “Purple Rain” by Prince and, among others, “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” by the Rolling Stones. Parton brought in music legends like Paul McCartney, Debbie Harry, Elton John, Steve Perry and many more.
