Doll, Bö and Co.: Biathlon elite ennobles “Queen” Herrmann-Wick

In addition to Marte Olsbu Röiseland, Germany’s best biathlete Denise Herrmann-Wick ended her successful career after the season. The entire biathlon elite bowed to the DSV athlete.

The sprint Olympic champion from Beijing and two-time world champion Denise Herrmann-Wick will end her sporting career on Sunday at the season finale at the Holmenkollen in Oslo. “I’m looking forward to the adventures that life has in store for me now and that I can now approach some things a little more spontaneously and flexibly,” said the 34-year-old in a statement from the DSV.

Many companions and other top athletes congratulated Herrmann-Wick on Instagram on her successful career. “I wish you all the best, as already discussed, you can’t get rid of me and I expect the highest level of discipline and the fulfillment of your military duties by Sunday or Monday,” joked Benedikt Doll, who will be hanging on for another season.

Marte Olsbu Röiseland, who had recently announced the end of her career, commented on the announcement of her resignation with three hearts. Her teammate Tarjei Bö wrote: “Another queen to retire.”

Biathlete Wierer congratulates on “outstanding career”

The Italian Dorothea Wierer congratulated “on an outstanding career”. And the overall World Cup leader Julia Simon also paid homage to her long-time competitors Herrmann-Wick and Röiseland: “It’s an honor to be on the podium together with these two champions.”

While Vanessa Hinz, who had already announced the end of her career at the beginning of February, wanted to toast with a “Schnaps auf awesome career”, her husband Thomas focused on the last chapter: “Your Oslo – where every end is set up again is a new beginning!”

Before her successful career as a biathlete, Denise Herrmann-Wick had collected her first titles as a cross-country skier, winning Olympic bronze in Sochi in 2014 with the relay. Her long-time teammate Tobias Angerer therefore also joined in the congratulations: “You legend. Dear Denise, your long run is now coming to an end and there is only one place for that, at the magical Holmenkollen. Enjoy it and give it your all, just like in all the past few years.”
