The former world-class goalkeeper sees Uli Hoeneß’s criticism calmly to sports director Eberl and sees it as an award.

Sepp Maier sees no reason for excitement. The former national goalkeeper has commented on Uli Hoeneß’s public criticism of Max Eberl – and stands behind the honorary president of FC Bayern.

At TV broadcaster Sport1, Maier explained that HOENEß did not mean badly with the sports director: “You shouldn’t forget that Max has a hell job. At Bayern, you are always under constant fire.” The statements of his long -time friend should not be misunderstood, said Maier. Public criticism has more of an encouraging effect: “This is more of a knighthood than an attack.”

Hoeneß recently described Eberl as “quite sensitive” in the program “Doppelpass” and declared that he “had his problems” to delegate tasks. Maier ordered this: “A little”, Eberl was sensitive. “But that makes him human. Everyone is knitted differently: the Uli is a thick skull, it is gone, and the Max may take things more to heart.”

The clear words of Hoeneß were “a decent wadding” for Eberl, said Maier. At the same time, the 81-year-old made it clear that FC Bayern rarely approaches squeamish. “At FCB, nobody is touched with velvet gloves. You have to know that before you take responsibility here.”

For Maier, it is only crucial that the relationship is not permanently burdened: “In the end you have to go out together again and work for the club – and that can.” Maier does not expect a resignation of the 51-year-old. “Many think: Actually, Eberl would have to throw down now, but I don’t believe in it. He won’t pack his things now.”
