Wladimir Klitschko pushes back into the boxing ring after eight years. A long-time confidant of the former heavyweight champion has now confirmed this.
“Vladimir is such a historical figure. I don’t want to speculate for Vladimir, but my understanding is that he wants to fight for a title,” said Klitschko’s former promoter Tom Loeffler of the American boxing Bible “The Ring”.
“If someone can put a comeback down, it is Vladimir. Every time I see it, it is impressive form, just as he was when he defended his title 25 times,” Loeffler continued.
A lot of big fights are possible for Klitschko, the American emphasized: “Revanche fights against Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury. Dubois – that’s a great fight. But it is due to Vladimir. I will let him speak for myself and put no words in his mouth. I would like to see his comeback as a box fan and Vladimir fan.”
Wladimir Klitschko: Fight for Foreman record against Agit Kabayel?
Loeffler’s statements coincide with information from sport.deaccording to which Klitschko already planned for February 22nd with his return to challenge Daniel Dubois in Riad IBF champion. The organizers canceled corresponding discussions.
The Saudi Box-Mogul Turki al-Heikh has repeatedly emphasized that he wanted to give Klitschko the chance to break George Foreman’s record as the oldest heavyweight world champion in history. “Big George” crowned the boxing champion of all classes in 1994.
Video: Klitschko-comeback? That says the scene
Klitschko’s former manager Bernd Bönte brought im sport.de-InterView recently the possibility of a comeback fight in Germany against Agit Kabayel into play if a door should open up to the World Association WBC.
Kabayel has been at the WBC since its spectacular victory over the Chinese Zhang Zhoei “Interims” champion. If world champion Oleksandr Usyk does not defend the belt against Kabayel, it could be declared world champion and compete against Klitschko.
Kabayel signaled in an interview with RTL/NTV and sport.de His willingness: “If we can revitalize German boxing – I am at the start, why not?”
