Beach Volleyball World Cup: German women win – men lose

As of: 06/12/2022 7:06 p.m

The German beach volleyball teams Svenja Müller/Cinja Tillmann, Karla Borger/Julia Sude and Sandra Ittlinger/Isabel Schneider are unbeaten at the World Cup in Rome and can plan for the knockout round.

The three duos each came to their second wins in their second preliminary round games.

On the other hand, Hamburg’s Nils Ehlers/Clemens Wickler suffered their first defeat and have to worry about entering the round of 32. The only German men’s team lost in group J against the Cubans Noslen Diaz and Jorge Luis Alayo, somewhat surprisingly, 1:2 (21:18, 21:23, 10:15).

In Group I, Svenja Müller/Cinja Tillmann benefited from their opponents’ bad luck with injuries in the 2-1 win over Reka and Viktoria Orsi Toth. The Italians won the first set 21:15. In the second round they had to retire early because of Viktoria Orsi Toth’s knee injury.

Three German women’s duos still undefeated

Karla Borger/Julia Sude are still without losing a set. The Stuttgart women didn’t give Gaudencia Makokha and Brackcides Khadambi from Kenya a chance when they made it 2-0 (21:11, 21:13). They had already celebrated a clear 2-0 (21:9; 21:13) against Kinga Wojtasik and Katarzyna Kociolek from Poland in Group L at the start. Sandra Ittlinger and Isabel Schneider, who train in Hamburg, also had little trouble in Group K in the 2-0 (21:11, 21:15) against Ana Sinaportar and Vanessa Muianga from Mozambique.

Chantal Laboreur and Sarah Schulz came to their first success. After their opening defeat in Group J against France’s Lézana Placette and Alexia Richard, the Stuttgart team prevailed 2-0 (21:15, 21:16) against Australia’s Alisha Stevens and Georgia Johnson. Your last preliminary round opponents on Monday are the Canadian titleholders Sarah Pavan/Melissa Humana-Paredes.

48 duos each for men and women, divided into 12 groups of four teams each, play for the world championship title. The first and second place in each group as well as the four best third-placed teams qualify directly for the knockout stage. The other eight third-place finishers play in a lucky-loser round for the final four spots in the knockout round.
