LONDON (dpa-AFX) – As expected, the British central bank did not change its key interest rate. It remains at 4.75 percent, the Bank of England announced on Thursday after its monetary policy meeting in London. Bank economists had largely expected this decision.

At the beginning of August, the central bank reduced interest rates for the first time since the great wave of inflation. At the meeting in November, it cut interest rates again.

Inflation in Great Britain had recently proven to be stubborn. In November the annual rate climbed to 2.6 percent. The Bank of England’s inflation target is two percent./jsl/la/jha/
