Arsenal miss Manchester City’s second defeat in a row

Havertz with an assist

Runner-up Arsenal handed Manchester City their second defeat in a row in the Premier League. In the top game, the “Gunners” defeated the English champions 1-0 (0-0) on Sunday. While Arsenal are at the top with Tottenham Hotspur (to the table), Pep Guardiola’s team fell back to third place. National player Kai Havertz prepared Gabriel Martinelli’s winning goal in the 86th minute.

Manchester City dominated in the first half and had the best chance of scoring the first goal, especially at the beginning. Without Havertz in the starting line-up, Arsenal got into the game better after the break, but initially didn’t create any big opportunities. When everything looked like a draw, substitute Havertz passed to Martinelli, who made it 1-0. For Man City it is the first defeat against Arsenal FC after twelve wins in a row.

Liverpool missed their sixth win of the season against Brighton

Liverpool FC and Jürgen Klopp have meanwhile missed out on their sixth win of the season. The traditional club only managed a 2-2 (2-1) draw at Brighton & Hove Albion despite taking the lead, but like their opponents they remain in the top group. Two goals from Egyptian star Mohamed Salah were not enough for the Reds.

After a poor play by Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk, the hosts took the lead through Simon Adingra (20th minute). On the other hand, Klopp’s team also took advantage of the hosts’ mishaps: Salah scored the 1-1 equalizer (40th). Then the recovered national player Pascal Groß lost the ball under pressure in his own penalty area and knocked over former Leipzig player Dominik Szoboszlai. Salah confidently converted the penalty (45th + 1).

After the break, ex-Bayern professional Ryan Gravenberch missed the third goal for the guests from close range in front of the empty Brighton goal with a shot on the crossbar (54th). Instead, the “Seagulls” equalized the deserved 2-2 through Lewis Dunk (78th). After the European Cup gala against Paris Saint-Germain (4:1) a few days ago, Borussia Dortmund’s upcoming Champions League opponent Newcastle United only managed a 2:2 (0:1) draw at West Ham United this time.
