Antoinette Hertsenberg still finds it very sad that her TV child Radar was relegated from NPO 1 to NPO 2 a few years ago. “Of course we still think that is a shame.”
It was a ratings bomb on NPO 1 for years: the TV classic Radar by Antoinette Hertsenberg. Nowadays the program has less impact due to the relegation to NPO 2. She still emphatically states that she can be seen on that channel, even now in the Weekend. “That is even expressed with a deep sigh,” the magazine said.
Chairs or sofas
Radar’s demotion still doesn’t sit well with her, Antoinette admits. “Unfortunately. The transition to NPO 2 had the advantage for us that we received more broadcasts. And that is very important for a journalistic program.”
She continues: “But yes, on NPO 2. And of course we still think that is a shame. I have never hidden that.”
‘I don’t know’
Does the NPO leadership find it annoying that Antoinette is so critical of their programming? “Well, I don’t know. But it is what it is. I’m not going to pretend that I’m very happy with it and of course they understand that.”
Antoinette takes into account that at some point she may be taken off the air completely. “You are so dependent on such a channel boss.”
Fossil
With a smile, Antoinette calls herself ‘a kind of fossil in broadcasting.’ “I can talk about the past, when the lines were shorter and it was easier to contact the bosses themselves. Now there are so many people turning so many buttons that it is difficult to influence them.”
What if she gets knocked off the tube? “Well, there will come a time when that will happen. I’m 60, I’m not going to do this for another ten years,” she says. “I think we do that in consultation. I don’t read it through a report in the newspaper, I don’t assess them that way. And I don’t assess myself that way either.”
