Albanian arrested after scattering banknotes stolen during burglary

The police arrested a suspect on Thursday evening who was very careless with his suspected loot. Between Ter Apel and Emmen, the 41-year-old Albanian threw ‘various banknotes’ from his car. The man probably stole the money during a burglary in Sellingen in East Groningen.

The suspect was driving a car with a German license plate. During a police check, a few weeks ago, the vehicle had raced off. The license plate number was known to the police who gave chase on Thursday evening.

“When the Marechaussee went after the car, various banknotes were thrown out of the car. The car could be forced to stop in Emmen,” the police wrote on Facebook yesterday.

It is believed that the ‘little money’ was stolen during a home burglary, where banknotes and foreign currency were stored, according to the police. The 41-year-old Albanian was arrested and detained because of his illegal residence and as a suspect in the burglary. He is also being questioned for possible involvement in other burglaries in the region.
