Robin Gosens reacted with disappointment but also with understanding that he was not considered for the German World Cup squad. “A lifelong dream has burst for me, it hurts,” said the left-back from Inter Milan “Rheinische Post”, but he also added: “Of course I can understand Hansi Flick’s motives. Nevertheless, of course I hoped to participate. I was so close.”
National coach Flick had not called Gosens, who was one of the few winners at the failed European Championship a year and a half ago, to his 26-man squad for the World Cup finals in Qatar (November 20 to December 18) on Thursday. Instead, David Raum (RB Leipzig) and Christian Günter (SC Freiburg) are planned for left-back.

Gosens wants to assert himself at Inter and at some point in the Bundesliga
The World Cup exit for Gosens did not come as a surprise, the 28-year-old has not been able to play in Milan as hoped so far due to injuries in the current season. “Of course I want to play in the Bundesliga at some point. But my goal is to assert myself at Inter,” said Gosens. “I feel like I haven’t arrived yet. In daily training I see that I have the level to break through at a top club like Inter.”
Most recently, he has been associated with Bayer 04 Leverkusen, Borussia Mönchengladbach and Eintracht Frankfurt, among others. “He’s basically an interesting player, but such a transfer is not financially feasible for us,” said Frankfurt’s sports director Markus Krösche to the “Kicker”.
