Former NHL player Kyle Calder has died on Monday at the age of 47. The Los Angeles Jr. Kings, where Calder coached in 2020-22, said news agency for APthat the cause of death was a short illness.
Daughter of Canadian Calder Madison Calder wrote about the sad news on his Instagram account.
– Dad, I can’t describe in words how incredibly lucky I was to have you as my father. I could never have imagined that this day would come, he began.
– Thank you for being my biggest fan through every phase of my life. Thank you for loving me unconditionally. I would give anything to have one more conversation with you, one more hug or to hear your voice one more time and be able to say I love you.
Calder’s NHL career began at the turn of the 1990s and 2000s with the Chicago Blackhawks. He later played for the Philadelphia Flyers, Detroit Red Wings and Los Angeles Kings. 590 NHL games were accumulated, in which he scored 114 goals and 180 assists.
In the 2009–10 season, Calder played in Anaheim, where the Finnish duo Saku Koivu and Teemu Selänne also played at the same time.
Remembered as a loyal, generous and strong player, Calder also played for the Canadian national team in the early 2000s. He was involved in winning the World Championship gold in Finland in 2003.
