With 2,842 parts and a height of around 36 centimeters, this trophy is one of the larger display models in the current range, Available from Smyths Toys, among others, who sampled the piece for us. ROLLING STONE assembled and tested the set.

TOP

Color: The mix of shiny and matt gold tones creates a three-dimensional effect. Good for highlighting the contours of the World Cup trophy.

Display effect: The trophy is 36 centimeters high, an impressive size.

Easter egg: A hidden mini-diorama in the base of the cup reveals a small, built soccer field complete with minifigure.

Value for money: With 2,842 parts, the parts price in stores (where the set is often available well below the RRP) is at a fair level for a large license.

FLOP

Frustration factor during construction: The organic curves of the trophy and the globe are achieved by gradually lining up almost identical segments. This structure is a bit monotonous over long stretches.

Danger of confusion with the stones: Since colorful auxiliary stones are installed inside, but you work with many small gold-colored parts on the outside, one mistake in concentration (e.g. overlooking a 1×2 plate) is enough for you to have to dismantle large parts again later.

Angular look up close: When you look closely, the globe appears rough and pixelated in some places. Anyone expecting a flawlessly smooth sculpture may be disappointed by the typical nubby look.

Conclusion:

The trophy is primarily a collector’s item for football enthusiasts. The model impresses with its size and attention to detail, as well as the Easter egg. The price-performance ratio is fair. If you have little connection with the World Cup, you may find more versatile display models in the Lego range.
