The captain of fast boat Tiger, who was involved in a fatal accident on the Wadden Sea in 2022, has been acquitted on appeal. Four people were killed in the collision with a water taxi.

The court in Leeuwarden did not consider it proven that the suspect had behaved so carelessly that he was guilty. The captain was previously found guilty. Last year he received a community service order of 240 hours and a suspended prison sentence of three months.

The vessels sailed against each other on the Wadden Sea in the Schuitengat near Terschelling on October 21, 2022. There was a speed limit of twenty kilometers per hour in the shipping channel. The court considered it proven that both the water taxi and the fast boat sailed too fast.

Four passengers on the water taxi were killed. The body of one of them, a 12-year-old boy, was never found. Three other passengers were seriously injured.
