According to the training scenario, a large oil slick was discovered about 12 kilometers from the coast. The aim was to quickly clean up the pollution before it reached vulnerable nature reserves such as the Zwin or the Scheldt estuary. Straw was used instead of oil.
Seven specialized ships took part in the exercise, including Belgian, Dutch and European vessels. The Belgian coast guard partners also contributed to the simulation. Our Minister of the North Sea followed from the research vessel Belgica.
