There is a strategic goal in the background. The city of Jyväskylä and NBA star Lauri Markkanen have signed a letter of intent to build a basketball hall in Jyväskylä. The hall planned for Vehkalamme park will bear Markkanen’s name when completed. According to the city of Jyväskylä, the construction of the hall could start in 2028. It would be ready a year later, i.e. in 2029.
