The Japanese spider is renewed with a view to 2027. A special edition and an updated version of its naturally aspirated 1.5 are on the way, now more powerful and fuel-efficient
Mazda updates its spider again MX-5 with the 2027 model. Already twelve years after the introduction of its fourth generationthe iconic two-seater from Hiroshima continues to refine itself to cover an increasingly less covered segment in the current automotive panorama, that of “possible” spiders. The main innovations this time concern the engine, i.e. the 1.5 naturally aspirated four-cylinder SkyActiv-G which from 2024 is the only one left on the list. In fact, its maximum power rises to 136 HP, compared to 132 of the current model, while the value relating to the driving torque increases by 3 Nm, going from 152 to 155 Nm. At the same time, Mazda has also worked to reduce consumption and emissions of the SkyActiv-G, in view of more stringent anti-pollution regulations. In fact, consumption approved in the WLTP mixed cycle drops to 6.1 l/100 km (the outgoing model scores 6.3 l/100 km), while CO2 emissions are equal to 139 g/km.

In addition to the technical specifications, for 2027 Mazda is also introducing some new elements in terms of equipment. First of all, a new color debuts in the catalogue, a defined shade of green Zinc Green Metallic visible on the specimen featured in the accompanying shots. The features of the top of the range version have been updated Homuranow equipped with Bilstein sports suspension, front strut bar and 16-inch Rays alloy wheels, always combined with the Brembo braking system and Recaro sports seats. And from the MX-5 in Homura trim comes a new special edition destined to be produced in a limited number of examples. It will be called Yakudo and will be characterized by a series of aesthetic features that give it a more elegant appearance than the normal Homura. The brake calipers are painted silver (on the normal Homura they are red), while the soft top is light gray and the interior is covered in Alcantara. In the German market, the Mazda MX-5 Yakudo will be offered from 41,590 eurosexclusively in the classic two-seater spider configuration (not available for the RF). Finally, among the new features, we also highlight the addition of the system driver attention monitoring on all setups.
