Doctor Wostyn emphasizes the importance of this integrated care. “The professional care provided by our multidisciplinary team ensures that victims do not have to be referred from service to service at a time when they feel particularly vulnerable.”

New medical coordinator

After four years, Doctor Wostyn passes the torch to Doctor Steven Vervaeke, who continues to build on the foundations of recent years. He sees it as his most important ambition that every person in West Flanders who becomes a victim of sexual violence knows that specialized help exists and that that help is accessible. “No one wants a Sexual Violence Care Center to be necessary. Every victim is one too many. But sexual violence is unfortunately a reality. Many victims are left with feelings of shame, insecurity, powerlessness and loneliness. That is why it is crucial that they know that they are not alone and that there is a place where they are heard, believed and supported.”
