Tadorn Tosca, the new album is out Feminae, which puts the feminine back at the center. «This album was born naturally because I had a set of songs that talked about love, they spoke of feelings very linked to the feminine and naturally it was instinctive for me to think about sharing with voices that I respect very much”, says the artist.
Tosca, the album Feminae: the title suggested by Arbore
In the new work, different voices, repertoires and writings intertwine, between adaptations and new songs. The title was suggested to him by Renzo Arbore: «I was a little reluctant at first, because Feminae in the collective imagination, especially in this period, it is equal to seduction, so to speak, also to competition… or feminism, therefore the fight, or feminicide, therefore the killing of femininity. Instead I really tried to give life back to this term which actually means a lot: it means being born, it means teaching the language, it means welcoming, it means protecting, it means recognizing, it means waiting. It is everything that the feminine has in its beauty and that needs to be rediscovered in my opinion, such as this sharing of women that has been recognized in art.”
The memory of Ornella Vanoni
Tosca, Tenco Lifetime Achievement Award 2025, continues her musical path which focuses on contamination. In the album, of which Joe Barbieri signs the artistic production, arrangements and adaptations in Italian, there are many Italian artists and not only, from Carmen Consoli to Maria Bethania, passing through Ornella Vanoniwith For a friendhis lesser-known song, recorded shortly before his death.
«A song that I love very much, the delicacy of a pen that tells of a friendship between two women that goes through many phases», explains the artist. «The beauty of her voice in this song is disarming. I sang it and even made four versions of it, one with the large orchestra, one with the string quartet, a guitar and voice, one with just the voices and she chose the one with the string quartet; it is perhaps one of the best gifts that this profession has given me.”
Vanoni’s memory is vivid: «Ornella was a woman, she was a volcano, she was a queen and when he arrived at the places a sun arrived. I was a little inhibited on the occasions when we saw each other, as she considered me a bit sulky, a bit withdrawn. In reality I was very sensitive to his presence, his impetuosity, beautiful impetuosity.”
