Memorandum of understanding to develop level 4 self-driving robotaxis: Stellantis will provide the vehicles, Wayve the artificial intelligence and Uber the global platform

June 17 – 4.35pm – MILAN

Three-way handshake Stellantis, Wayve and Uber. In the background is the development and arrival on roads around the world of level 4 robotaxis, driverless vehicles used for passenger transport. The memorandum of understanding brings together the L4-Ready Platform, i.e. the Stellantis platform designed for level 4 driving, the AI technology for autonomous driving developed by Wayve and the more than consolidated platform of Uber. “This collaboration brings us closer to the goal of offering our customers smarter, safer and more efficient mobility – explained Ned Curic, chief engineering and technology officer of Stellantis -. By combining our L4-Ready Platforms, with Wayve’s adaptive artificial intelligence and Uber’s global network, we accelerate the development and diffusion of autonomous vehicles”.

ROLES

Each of the three companies will bring their own skills to the collaboration, which are fundamental for the arrival of self-driving taxis on the market. Stellantis it will deal with the technical base, i.e. the vehicles set up for level 4 autonomous driving. The vehicles will be equipped with the sensors and redundancies necessary to guarantee adequate safety standards even in intensive use, such as that typical of robotaxis. Wayve it will provide AI-based technology for autonomous driving, the system that vehicles will use to orient themselves and operate completely autonomously in real traffic, where there are many variables. UberFinally, it will deploy Stellantis’ L4 vehicles powered by Wayve across its global platform, so they can be booked and used by people. “This collaboration brings together three leaders, each with their own strengths: Stellantis’ vehicle expertise, Uber’s global mobility platform and Wayve’s artificial intelligence,” said Kaity Fischer, VP of Commercial & Operations at Wayve.

NO CONSTRAINTS

Stellantis, Wayve and Uber will now work side by side on vehicle integration, testing, validation and commissioning to achieve the goal of bring robotaxis to major European citiesAmericans and other areas of the world. “Successfully scaling autonomous mobility means effectively integrating vehicles, technology and platform,” explained Sarfraz Maredia, Global Head of Autonomous Mobility & Delivery at Uber. “Together with Stellantis and Wayve, we are excited to bring safe and reliable autonomous mobility services to more users around the world.” The memorandum of understanding signed by the three companies is a non-binding agreement, therefore each retains the possibility of moving as it sees fit, also pursuing, if deemed necessary, further collaborations in the field of autonomous driving.
