Second division club Hertha BSC could get a new investor.
According to “Bild”, Phil Murphy is said to be interested in joining the financially strapped club. A request from the Berliners initially received no response.
Contacts with Hertha’s presidium member Ralf Thaeter are said to have already taken place. The 68-year-old US investor was Ambassador of the United States of America in Berlin from 2009 to 2013 and was fond of the former Bundesliga club. Murphy served as Governor of New Jersey until January 2026.
Murphy is the founder and main owner of the US women’s soccer team Gotham FC and is said to have already held talks with the company A-Cap, which holds almost 79 percent of the shares in Hertha KGaA. A-Cap acquired the shares from the previous investor 777 Partners. He had previously acquired the shares of Lars Windhorst in 2023, who had invested around 374 million euros.
