A stele at the spot where the cyclist lost his life three years ago. Former teammate Simoni was also present

Exactly three years after the death of former cycling champion Davide Rebellin, hit and killed by a pirate truck on 30 November 2022, a commemorative stone was inaugurated this morning at the point where the cyclist from Vicenza lost his life, in Montebello Vicentino. Many former colleagues were present at the ceremony, including Gilberto Simoni, Rebellin’s former teammate, and Fabio Baldato, sporting director of UAE. The stele was created by Lino Diquigiovanni, owner of the team with which the former champion raced for years, collecting successes, including the Flèche Wallone in 2009, as well as the third and fourth stage at the Vuelta a Andalucia. In addition to Rebellin’s family, those of another former cycling champion who died in a tragic road accident while he was training were also present at the inauguration, Michele Scarponi, who died in 2017 in Filottrano (Ancona), hit by a van.
