For four days, skating enthusiasts enjoyed ‘De Vier van Noord-Holland’. On the final day, marathon skater Daan Gelling emerged as the winner of the final classification. At De Westfries in Hoorn he rode Jorian ten Cate out of the orange leader suit. Among the women, Kim Talsma was the best over the four competitions.
The skaters previously rode in Amsterdam, Haarlem and Alkmaar. In Hoorn, the men’s rankings were still open. Jorian ten Cate started as the leader, but finished eleventh in De Westfries after 150 laps. Because Daan Gelling crossed the line in sixth place, he took over the lead in the general classification.
Jurors
Everything was closely monitored by a team of judges in recent days. They keep track of times and draw up rankings, but also pay attention to the behavior of the skaters.
“There is some emotion every now and then and that is no problem,” says jury member Eric Kaandorp. “Fortunately, there are no obstacles, like in football.” On Sunday the leaders handed out four yellow cards. You can see this as warnings, with two yellow cards and therefore a red card it is over for a skater.

The day’s victory in Hoorn went to Wisse Slendebroek. The 21-year-old skater from Oudorp had a wide lead over the rest and was able to fully enjoy his win. “This is a big match and that makes the victory even better.”
Among the women, the victory went to Kim Talsma. Her leading position was no longer in danger. The Frisian won two of the four competitions and finished second and sixth. Marijke Groenewoud, who won the title last year, was not present. She skated in World Cup competitions. The victory in Hoorn went to Veerle van Koppen, number two in the general classification.
