Swiss skier Lara Gut-Behrami fell while training in the USA. There are conflicting reports about the severity of their injuries.
The Swiss skier Lara Gut-Behrami apparently fell badly during a training run in the American Copper Mountain. According to her doctor, Dr. Olivier Siegrist tore the cruciate ligament and the medial ligament in his left knee. He told the newspaper “Le Nouvelliste” that he had been called by the athlete. The Swiss Ski Association initially spoke of an injury to his left knee.
As Eurosport reports, the athlete, who wanted to take part in the Super-G race, is now returning to her homeland. There should be further investigations there. The fall happened on Thursday (local time). “I saw a video of the fall. It was violent,” said Rainer Salzgeber, racing director of Gut-Behrami’s outfitter “Head”, to “Blick”. She is said to have gotten stuck on a gate.
How serious the injury actually is seems to be unclear at the moment. Head coach Beat Tschuor told the Swiss “Blick”: “What I can say is that she has a slight concussion. And the left knee seems to have an injury, but it’s not clear at all. Everything you read is speculation.”
The Swiss, who won the overall World Cup in 2015/16 and 2023/24, was in good form. At the season opener in Sölden she finished third. In the USA she trained with the Swiss team for the first downhill run in St. Moritz on December 12th.
Four World Cup races will take place in Colorado from next Thursday to Sunday – first the women’s Super-G and giant slalom, then the men’s giant slalom and super-G at the weekend. Lara Gut-Behrami won a total of 48 World Cup races in the disciplines of downhill, super-G, giant slalom and combined in her career. In 2021 she won World Cup gold twice in Cortina d’Ampezzo. She also won gold at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.
