The Las Vegas F1 time trial was scheduled to start at eight o’clock local time.
However, the rain front had already arrived in Nevada a couple of hours earlier, and when the light turned green, the drivers were sent to the track with raincoat tires.
The terrible conditions had driven away a large part of the spectators as well.
Initially, the rain made qualifying a complete lottery, which could also partly decide the address of this year’s F1 championship.
The opening part of the time trial ended dramatically when Haas Oliver Bearman drove into the wall. Right after Williams Alex Albon broke his car and limped to the pit.
During yellow flags, according to the rules, it was forbidden to improve the lap time, but the investigation was left to the jury.
When the races stopped, it was Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton in last place. The Brit’s time trial is already in the first part, and he will start tomorrow’s race from the 20th starting grid.
In addition, the continuations dropped Yuki Tsunoda, Gabriel Bortoleto, Kimi Antonelli and Albon, who broke his suspension.
The conditions clearly improved for the second part of the time trial.
