A new name burst onto the political and cultural radar of the ruling party: Diego Recalde, Argentine filmmaker, writer, screenwriter and journalist who today moves as one of the most enthusiastic intellectuals of the libertarian project. He is 56 years old and declares himself an absolute admirer of Javier Milei, to the point of becoming one of the most active – and controversial – voices in the defense of the Government.

In recent days, Recalde went viral again for a fragment of an interview where he launched a proposal that surprised even within the libertarian ecosystem. There he raised the idea of an almost symbiotic integration with allied powers: “Let’s merge with the United States, with Israel. Let’s create an iron triangle. Let’s see if tomorrow we are a strategic partner of the United States, which is a country that has a lot to teach us. Not only culturally, but also economically. Why make enemies with someone who did you good? On the contrary, I am more angry with the Argentines who governed us, right?, than the only thing that “They did was to impoverish the country and leave it at a level of backwardness that continues to impress today. Let’s not talk about the numbers for 2023, that’s another discussion. Well, guys, the time has come to make friends with a culture that did a lot for us and try to give them the best we have to work as a team and grow.”

The epic and provocative tone fits his style. Recalde usually combines cultural nationalism, praise for Western powers and severe criticism of Peronism, which he has come to describe as responsible for an alleged “coup in the making” against Milei. In networks and in interviews, he presents himself as part of an intellectual vanguard aimed at “awakening” Argentine society.

The race and the controversies

Recalde trained in independent cinema, where he developed a satirical and corrosive aesthetic. His career, however, is marked by a recurring contradiction: while he criticizes state subsidies and the INCAA, his own production company received public funds to make films. His detractors accuse him of “hypocrisy” for denouncing the system from which he himself benefited.

Despite criticism, Recalde established himself as a figure within the libertarian universe. He participated in events such as La Derecha Fest (2025), where he presented his work Peronism: the Kaiser of Argentinaa narrative that reaffirmed him as an “ultralibertarian” willing to confront the left, which he usually describes as “eternal adolescents” dependent on the State.

Today, Recalde occupies a particular place within the ruling party: he is neither an official nor a formal advisor, but his rhetoric and presence in the media make him an unofficial spokesperson for the Mileist ideology. And every time he speaks, he creates an impact. The proposal to “merge with the United States” is just the latest example of an intellectual who is not afraid to exaggerate to make noise.
