The quarter-finalists of the U17 World Cup have been determined. Italy, Portugal, Brazil, Switzerland, Austria, Japan, Morocco and Germany’s conqueror Burkina Faso made it to the last eight. The Brazilians eliminated France 5-4 on penalties and Austria clearly defeated England’s youngsters 4-0.
The quarterfinals take place this Friday. Then Portugal will face Switzerland, Morocco will face Brazil, Austria will face Japan and Italy will face Burkina Faso, which sent the German youth team, who were defending champions, home 0-1 in the round of 16. This year the U17 World Cup will be held for the first time with 48 teams. The record winner is Nigeria with five titles, followed by Brazil with four.
