There has been speculation about this for a long time, now it is official: AS Monaco has announced the separation from coach Adi Hütter. The 55-year-old finished last season with the Monegasques in third place and thus secured qualification for the premier class. After seven match days in Ligue 1 we currently have fifth place and four wins. In the Champions League, the club from the principality is waiting for the first three points after two games.

Hütter moved to Ligue 1 in the summer of 2023 as one of the highest paid coaches in France. In spring 2024, “L’Équipe” put his gross monthly salary at 250,000 euros, at the time second place behind PSG coach Luis Enrique, who was given a salary of over 900,000 euros. Last January, Hütter extended his contract early until 2027, so he should have improved his financial position once again. Since taking office, he has played 93 games in which he averaged 1.77 points.

According to a report by “L’Équipe”, Sébastien Pocognoli is considered his successor. The 38-year-old is considered the favorite for the post after negotiations with former BVB coach Edin Terzic failed on Monday.

Pocognoli, who will be familiar to German fans from his time as a player at Hannover 96, is currently under contract with Union Saint-Gilloise. The former Belgian international has been in charge there since the beginning of the 2024/25 season and sensationally won the first championship in 90 years. This enabled him to make a name for himself in Europe. According to the report, Pocognoli has an exit clause of one million euros in his contract and is said to have already announced his departure internally. After ten matchdays, his team leads the table with a three-point lead over Club Brugge. In addition to Terzic, Marco Rose, Thiago Motta and Sérgio Conceição were previously traded.
