In his podcast De Leeuw roars further The singer and presenter and his mother look back on the festive day. “We have converted the partner registration into a marriage,” says De Leeuw.

“I was shocked,” said his 93-year-old mother. “So many people, so many old acquaintances and so great. I didn’t know what happened to me. That I can experience it. I really enjoyed it, Toppie.”

According to the 63-year-old De Leeuw, it was extra special, because his sons Kas and Toby stood next to them as witnesses. The wedding took place at the end of August in the Amstel Hotel.

Gay marriage

The couple chose to enter into a registered partnership in 2000, because same -sex marriage was not yet possible in the Netherlands at the time. When that was introduced a year later, they decided to leave the marriage for what it was.
