Louis Vuitton confirms theft of customer data in Great Britain

The French luxury goods group LVMH has been victim of a cyber attack for the third time within three months. The Louis Vuitton fashion house confirmed that customer data from Great Britain was stolen from a hacker attack on July 2. The Bloomberg media portal first reported on the attack.

Louis Vuitton explained in an email to customers: inside that there are several news agencies that unauthorized third parties accessed the systems of the British branch and stolen information such as names, contact details and shopping history.

The company emphasized that no financial data such as bank details had been compromised and that there was no evidence of the current abuse of the data. Nevertheless, Louis Vuitton warned that unauthorized use of the stolen information as well as phishing and fraud attempts are possible.

Louis Vuitton had to deal with a similar cyber attack on his Korean branch last week. This attack occurred only a few weeks after Hacker: Inside the sister brand Christian Dior had targeted and also accessed customer data.

With the recent attacks, Louis Vuitton is part of a growing list of trading companies that have been faced with cyber security threats in recent months. This series began at the beginning of the year when Marks & Spencer, Harrods and Co-OP, among others, reported such incidents as some of the first British retailers.

In the past week, four people were arrested in connection with the attacks on the three British companies, the responsible law enforcement agency National Crime Agency (NCA) said. All suspects are therefore still custody.
