What a thriller in the decisive fifth game of the BBL final series: FC Bayern Munich crowned the champion with an energy performance against strong Ulm.
On Thursday evening (June 26, 2025), Bayern prevailed with 81:77 (28:21, 20:20, 17:20 and 16:16). It hadn’t looked like such a thriller for a long time. A look at the faces of the Ulm players during a break after three minutes of the second quarter said everything: While coach Ty Harrelson addressed the lousy defense and the concentration in the ends in the alarm, there was a shade – not because of the coach’s words, rather the speech about his own presentation in game five of this final series.
Ten threesome, zero hits
At that time, Bayern led with a 14-point lead, there were humiliating actions against the Ulm like a monster dunk by Niels Giffey, who torn the fans. With the guests, on the other hand, nothing went after a reasonably balanced start phase. The defense did not come against Andy Obst, Nick Weiler-Babb, Devin Booker or Justus Hollatz at all.
And while the Munich team was at a good three-percent quota of 40 percent, the Downtown basknown was nailed for Ulm: zero out of ten was the devastating balance in the meantime, in fact, Alfonso Plummer only succeeded in the last minute before half-time the first attempt at the three-line line.
Ulm 9-0 run shortly before the break
While Gordon Herbert’s protégés previously from the field at over 60 percent and the Ulmer were less than 40 percent, this release sign from Plummer has fit into the only really good phase of the Swabians that evening: With a 9-0 run, the guests shortened the gap from 30:47-suddenly there was a little excitement in the game with a 9: 0 run.
Bavaria started in the third third with a three from Booker, but Ulm could not be shaken off. When Jackson White had the ball stuffed the ball from Nate Hinton in the 23rd minute, Karim Jallow Hinton’s pass through Dunk stuffed it – it was only 45:51 and a jerk seemed to go through the guests.
Santos meets, hamlet Babb counters
However, the Harrelson team did not really come up, but the gap remained at six or seven points before Marcio Santos set the next exclamation mark for the Ulm: Shortly before the third siren, he managed the second threesome for the guests, for the first time there were only two points behind. Booker had an answer to this, the Bavaria took a 65:61 lead into the last ten minutes – but this third third had lost them with 17:20.
And Ulm took the swing with them. Almost three minutes were played in the final quarter when the guests attacked the Shotclock in an attack by the guests. The ball was in the hands of Nelson Weidann, who was not a factor until then.
Weidemann puts the guests in the lead
The Bavarians were apparently sure that it would stay that way, nobody opposed Weidemann. He simply pressed off due to the lack of time and opponents from around nine meters – and met. Weidemann freaked out, the Ulm fans too, because for the first time since the first quarter they were now in the lead.
Bayern wiggled, but it remained highly exciting. A monster block by Johannes Voigtmann on the one hand, a coast-to-coast fast break with Dunking of the outstanding Jallow on the other-the highlights and the leadership now changed every second.
Two threes from Voigtmann bring the decision
Then Voigtmann turned up completely: Two hammer three in a row made a 79:75 lead a minute from a 73-75 deficit-Ulm ultimately no longer had a decisive answer.
“We absolutely wanted it and are overjoyed that we rewarded ourselves for the hard work. The energy in the first half was good, but not really there in the second half. Then you have to find other ways to decide the game”said Voigtmann about the roller coaster of feelings and announced: “Now we’ll let it rush properly.”
