Historical building material from before 1940, where do you still find it? Until recently you could go to the Monumentenloods in Alkmaar, but it is now destroyed. The last doors, stained glass windows, stones and roof tiles left the building on Monday.
The shed was from the Historical Association Alkmaar (HvA). You could bring old things or buy it for a reasonable price. A condition was a good destination with a private person, traders were not welcome.
Gems for gourmets
For casual visitors, the Monumentenloods was a hardware store with purely old meuk. For the gourmet who was looking for monumental gems, it was a real treasure room. “Often the customers went home with much more than for which they came,” says volunteer Jos Stroomer.
But unfortunately the shed cannot stay at the current location.

The alternative that the municipality offered was the old fire station in Oudorp. “But that space is five times as small as here,” says Frank Koot of the Historical Association Alkmaar.
Invaluable
“So we thanked for that, but if the municipality had come up with a better alternative, we would certainly have continued,” Koot continues. In recent weeks he sold the household effects of the Monumentenloods on behalf of the HvA.
“One of the Kramer brothers, known for the TV program ‘Van Invinstable’, has taken two trucks full of,” says Koot. The remaining materials were collected today by furniture maker Restoric from Uithoorn.
The volunteers will also miss it together. “It was just very nice,” volunteers Jos Stroomer and Lucas Zimmerman conclude.
