Daniel Farke climbs into the Premier League with Leeds United. The German trainer does historical in English football.

Daniel Farke danced on the balcony on the Elland Road to the songs of the fans – and then became a whipping. After climbing with Leeds United, the otherwise rather reserved German trainer went out completely. “I usually celebrate with cakes and coffee on the sofa”, said Farke. “But if there is something big to celebrate, I’ll be a celebration.”

After the fixed return to the Premier League “Just one beer after the other, one champagne after the other and not deal with football for a few days”. In Leeds, nobody will blame him. After all, he managed to do a sharehom: As a second coach ever, Farke rises in England’s Eliteliga for the third time and thus steps into the footsteps of coaching icon Neil Warnock. That, said Farke, be “something special”.

Farkes first year in Leeds ended with a disappointment

After made the leap into the Premier League with Norwich City in 2019 and 2021, a rather unhappy Bundesliga intermezzo followed. At Borussia Mönchengladbach, after tenth place after just one season was released before he found his luck in Leeds. In the first year, Farke failed narrowly on the return through a 0: 1 in the playoff final against Southampton.

But this time it was enough after two and a half hours of waiting in the cabin two game days before the end of the season. First, the Leeds, which belongs to the Red Bull empire, did its own homework with a 6-0 (5: 0) against Stoke City, before the FC Burnley, who was a co-promoted, cleared the last remaining competitor Sheffield United 2: 1 (2: 1). “I lack the words – and in fact that doesn’t happen that often”, said Farke.

Recently, promoters often only stayed in the Premier League for a year

Before the season, United had sold several stars such as ex-Hoffenheim Georginio Rutter for a total of 162 million euros, but Farke managed the upheaval with only four seasonal defeats-and thus ensured cheers in Leeds. He didn’t want to look ahead to the coming season in the Premier League. “Now I’m just happy at first – don’t worry me now”he said in the direction of the reporter.

They pointed out that the three last year’s promoters will most likely all descend. So it often ran in the Premier League recently. This scenario is also likely in the current season: Southampton and Leicester have already been determined as a relegation. Ipswich Town has fifteen points behind a non -relegation zone – and therefore only very theoretical opportunities for relegation in five outstanding games.

In Leeds, of course, you want to avoid this fate. It applies, said Farke, “break through this cycle”.
