In the future government coalition of the Union and the SPD, there should be a Minister of State for Sport and Volunteering in the Federal Chancellery. This emerges from the parties’ agreements after completing their coalition negotiations. So far, the Federal Ministry of the Interior has been in charge of sport in the federal government, and there has been no exposed position as planned.

CDU, CSU and SPD strive for a paradigm shift in view of the number of medals that have been declining for years. The aim is to make Germany more competitive internationally as a sports nation. Funding should become more efficient, more flexible and less bureaucratic. The premiums for medals obtained should be released under tax law. An improved social security of athletes as well as the support of the dual career is planned.

The Institute for Applied Training Science (IAT) as well as the Institute for Research and Development of Sports Devices (FES) are included in institutional support.

Application for Olympics should be supported

A German application for Olympic and Paralympic Games is expressly supported. It should be embedded in a “national strategy of sports major events”. Applications for World Championships, Nordic Ski Championships and the Women’s Ski Championships and the European Championships Championships and the European Championships.

Well -trained trainers are to be kept in Germany through a trainer offensive. They should be paid better and improved labor law conditions also receive with regard to the dual career.

More visibility of women’s sports

Another goal is greater visibility of women’s sports. “In order to enable athletes in competitive sport, we recognize their realities of life – for example by anchoring maternity protection and promoting gender -specific training and research,” it says.

A billion for sports facilities

At least one billion euros should be made available for the modernization and renovation of sports facilities. The federal government wants to help countries, municipalities and associations as needed. In addition to sports halls, swimming pools should be encouraged in order to improve people’s swimming ability in Germany.

Victims of state doping in the former GDR are to be supported. The future government also wants to recognize the charity of e-sports.

DOSB is satisfied

The Deutsche Sporthilfe Foundation welcomed two points of the coalition agreement: that athletes should be better secured and that Olympic and Paralympics medalists can hope for tax exemption for premiums. The draft of the coalition agreement is a “First important step towards improvements that German competitive sport urgently needs”commented on sports aid board member Max Hartung.

Athletes Germany EV was also satisfied. “This is a very good result for top sport. The negotiators have taken a look at the most important challenges and took into account many of our suggestions”said the deputy managing director Maximilian Klein.

The German Olympic Sports Confederation said that central demands were received almost fully. President Thomas Weikert said: “In this respect, we see four hopeful years for sport and can continue our work.”
