The HSV women dream of the Bundesliga promotion. If he succeeds, he would be sweetened with a special move.

After their appearance in front of 57,000 fans in the Volksparkstadion, the footballers of Hamburger SV are facing a possible return to the big stage – this time permanently. The club announced on Wednesday that all home games of the HSV women in the arena should be played in the future if a possible promotion to the Bundesliga. Corresponding steps were initiated as part of the licensing process.

HSV board member Eric Huwer said that one was aware that such a number of spectators would not be the rule. At the same time, he emphasized what effect the cup game against Werder Bremen had on club, fans, partners – and above all on the team. The game showed “what this game triggered with us, for spectators, partners and especially among the players”. Since there is currently no suitable venue for women’s football in Hamburg, the Volksparkstadion is the “only appropriate transition alternative,” said Huwer.

In the DFB Cup semi-final, the HSV women had lost 1: 3 after extra time. Despite the sporting setback, the game ensured a historical moment: so many spectators have never come to a game of two women’s club teams in Germany.

In the 2nd league, the HSV currently occupies third place in the table. This would be enough for the promotion at the end of the season. Six game days are still to be completed. If the climb did not succeed, the home games would continue to take place in 6th place next to the Volksparkstadion.
