Does Transport Councilor Annika Gerold (35, Greens) disregard the right of the district parliament to have a say in the renovation of Oranienstraße? The planned car ban causes Zoff in the BVV of Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg.

Gerold wants to have the street rebuilt so that only cyclists, buses and residents can pass. The district councilors from the CDU, FDP and Left feel ignored – the district parliament must agree.

“BVV has decided to completely rebuild Oranienstraße,” said the city councilor, to the astonishment of the three parties – because she cannot prove this claim.

“Ignorance or deception?” CDU parliamentary group leader Timur Husein (41) said to the BZ “Ms. Gerold is about pushing through the green bicycle ideology – without regard to democratic decision-making processes.”

René Jokisch (38, Linke): “We want to convert Oranienstrasse, but so far it has never been a question of blocking it. We want to have a say as BVV!”

Ex-Mayor Monika Herrmann (57, Greens) also gets involved in the dispute. She mocks the FDP, CDU and left on Twitter as “opposing parties”, accusing them of “disinformation campaigns”.
