Zara Rutherford (19) lands Monday after her solo flight around the world: “I left as a shy girl and return as a woman who is not afraid of the unknown”

She will have been en route for six months in her small plane, when she lands in Belgium on Monday. She was all alone in the cockpit, from Wevelgem to Wevelgem — past Greenland, Colombia, Alaska and Siberia, past Japan and India, across the Arabian desert and back to Europe. She flew over volcanoes and frozen seas, came close to being caught up in a tropical storm and is now mainly looking forward to a sandwich from the sandwich bar at home in Kortrijk. She will go straight into the history books, because a younger woman never did it for Zara Rutherford (19). This is a reconstruction of her stunt, in ten emotions.
