The Briton was sexually molested as a child, which he has long suppressed and kept secret.
As the flagship of the new alternative scene, Yungblud stands for a loud sound in which even rock legend Mick Jagger sees the future of the genre. However, the 26-year-old also has a very vulnerable side that shines through his music. Just like with his new song “Hated”, in which he shares a traumatic childhood experience with the world.
Yungblud speaks about sexual harassment
Now, on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Yungblud has spoken about the meaning of “Hated,” the song that was released on August 24th. This is the most personal song of his career, he admitted, which is an expression of his deepest self. With “Hated” it was time for him to work through an attack he experienced in his childhood.
“When I was seven years old, I was sexually harassed by my pediatrician. “I’ve never shared this with anyone before, until I told my producer when the song came out,” Yungblud’s post reads. “This is the most personal material I have released. That doesn’t mean it’s soft and quiet. Quite the opposite.”
Yungblud seems much more concerned with screaming his anger beyond what he has experienced: “Ultimately, the song is about freeing yourself from bad experiences and trauma. Finding inner strength. Acknowledge the past, accept the pain, and have the courage not to let it dictate your future. […] You’ll have to hurt a few people, but first they’ll be thirsty to see you bleed. And then you know you made it. When you’re hated.”

“Hated” follows the single “Lowlife”, with which the Brit opens a new chapter in his career. Both songs can be seen as a harbinger of his next album, which according to Yungblud is already finished. An official title and a release date are not yet known.
