Youth League: Again racist insults against BVB youngsters

In the Youth League there was another racist insult against BVB players in the second leg between Dortmund and Sevilla. This was already the case in the first leg.

The “Ruhr Nachrichten” reported on the renewed racism scandal on Tuesday evening. BVB confirmed the incidents on its website on Wednesday. The player Abdoulaye Kamara was hit again in the game against Sevilla. The culprit is said to be the same: Sevilla’s Alejandro Vazquez. “There were the same sounds and insults as last week. A paramedic confirmed that,” said BVB coach Mike Tullberg.

Junior boss Ricken: “I’m glad when Sevilla is gone”

However, the referee heard nothing and could not act. Tullberg describes a discussion with the UEFA officials: “I had to discuss what a monkey sounds like and what a monkey does. That wasn’t okay. How are we supposed to prove that the insults happened?!” He replaced the affected player at half-time to protect him.

Contrary to what was announced by youth boss Lars Ricken, the team did not stop the game to change sides, but continued to play. “Despite the incident, we didn’t leave the pitch because the referee’s actions unfortunately gave us the uneasy feeling that, in case of doubt, there would be testimony against testimony, and by not keeping to agreements and not following guidelines, our players and we as a team and club should have feared being punished on top of that,” said Ricken, explaining the step. “So we have vowed to give the opponent the right answer in terms of sport and our behavior on the pitch.”

And Borussia gave it: two goals from Julian Rijkhoff brought a 2-0 win. Nevertheless, Ricken chose clear words towards the guests: “I’m glad when they packed their things and left the premises.” BVB had already complained about racist incidents after the first leg last week and submitted an official complaint to UEFA.
