The weather wasn’t good for ski jumping in Ruka, Finland. Because the starting speed became too slow, the jury had to intervene.
A difficult competition with gusts of wind, rain and snow ended on Saturday with a victory for Slovenia’s Anze Lanisek. Ren Nikaido from Japan and Domen Prevc from Slovenia completed the podium in Ruka, Finland. The best German was Andreas Wellinger (7th), closely followed by Pius Paschke (9th) and Felix Hoffmann (11th).
Raimund is eliminated in the first round
On the other hand, Karl Geiger (27th) continues to look for his form and Philipp Raimund also fell far short of expectations. In Falun, the athlete from SC Oberstdorf jumped onto the podium and celebrated the second best result of his career. Just a few days later, a completely different picture: the 25-year-old landed at 120 meters and seemed dissatisfied in the run-out. After the first round it was only enough for 32nd place.
The fifth ski jumping of the season became a wind lottery: Ruka had already caused weather chaos in the past few days. The training session had to be stopped after a few long breaks and the qualification was postponed until today, Saturday. And the competition on Saturday was also characterized by rain, wind and later heavy snowfall.
