The German women’s relay took second place in a crazy race at the end of the Biathlon World Cup in Ruhpolding and only just missed the first win of the season. The quartet of the German Ski Association (DSV) with Karolin Horchler, Miriam Gössner, Maren Hammerschmidt and Laura Dahlmeier only had to admit defeat to the Ukraine after 4×6 km in the final sprint. Third was Italy. After Gössner made a mistake at the shooting range and had to go into the penalty loop twice, the DSV relay fell back to 15th place. But the extremely strong Hammerschmidt delivered a sensational performance and brought her team up from eleventh to second place. Final runner Dahlmeier couldn’t get past Olena Pidhruschna on the home stretch.
