The “she-wolves” are unhappy in Madrid and despair of their hosts. Even a key moment in the game brings no advantage for Wolfsburg.

The VfL Wolfsburg footballers suffered a setback in the race for the coveted top four places in the Champions League league phase. At Real Madrid, coach Stephan Lerch’s team lost 0-2 (0-1) despite being in the majority at half time and was pushed out of third place in the table by the Spaniards. The first four places qualify directly for the quarter-finals.

Maria Méndez (19th minute) scored the first goal for Real with a header. Linda Caicedo (67th) extended the lead after a spectacular sprint solo and a swerve around VfL goalkeeper Stina Johannes. Real defender Lakrar received a yellow-red card before the half-time whistle. In stoppage time, another Real player received a red card.

Wolfsburg had moved into the top positions of the league phase thanks, among other things, to the big victories against Paris St. Germain (4:0) and Manchester United (5:2).

The clubs in places five to twelve will fight for the remaining four places in the round of the last eight teams. VfL had already secured the playoffs anyway. One game in the league phase is still to come. The Lower Saxony team will host Chelsea FC on December 17th (9 p.m./Disney Plus).
