Two Amsterdam residents suspected of involvement in the explosion at the Osdorper Ban in Amsterdam will remain in custody longer. A third suspect has been sent away, the Public Prosecution Service (OM) reports.
In the night from Thursday to Friday, just after midnight, the explosion caused a huge fire and a partial collapse of a building next to an apartment building in the Amsterdam district. The three suspects were arrested on Friday afternoon. Two Amsterdam residents, aged 24 and 25, will now remain in custody for longer.
It was not until Saturday morning, when emergency services had completed the rescue operation, that detectives and Forensic Investigation (FO) were able to investigate the destroyed building.
The police are investigating various scenarios about the circumstances of the explosion. “Among other things, there is criminal activity involving explosives,” the Public Prosecution Service reports. “However, at this stage of the investigation it is still too early to draw conclusions about what exactly happened and all information about this remains welcome to the investigation.”
