Marc Cucurella’s time at Chelsea is coming to an end after four years. The Spain star is moving back to his home country.
Now it’s official: Left-back Marc Cucurella is moving to Real Madrid for the 26/27 season. The Royals confirmed this on Monday morning. This means that Germany’s 2024 European Championship scare is saying goodbye to England after a total of five years. The 27-year-old is actually under contract with Chelsea FC until 2029. With a transfer fee of apparently 55 million euros, plus bonuses worth 5 million euros, the new old Real coach José Mourinho is now bringing the Spaniard into the team.
Training with rivals
Cucurella completed his football training with Real’s league rivals Barcelona. Before his time in the Premier League, which he began with Brighton & Hove Albion and now ends with Chelsea FC, the Spaniard played through several youth teams at FC Barcelona. However, he only played one first-team game for the Catalans.
The club around coach Hansi Flick is said to have also tried to transfer Cucurella in recent weeks. According to media reports, Atlético Madrid was also keen to sign the left-footed player. Ultimately, however, the Spaniard signed a contract with Real Madrid until 2032. Bernardo Silva from Manchester City, as well as Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan and Ibrahima Konaté from Liverpool FC are also on the Madrid transfer wish list.
Marc Cucurella only finished the last Premier League season with Chelsea in tenth place, meaning the Londoners missed out on the international ranks. In total, the Spaniard appeared in 147 games for the “Blues” and won, among other things, the 2025 Club World Cup in the USA.
