Bayern Munich secured a 3-2 win against defending champions Arsenal in the Women’s Champions League with a thrilling comeback.

The women of FC Bayern welcomed Arsenal FC in front of a big crowd in the Allianz Arena. It should be a spectacle, similar to last year when the Munich team won the group game against the Gunners 5-2. The Munich women were 0-2 behind before substitute Alara started a comeback with her goal. In the end, FCB won 3-2 and has now jumped to seventh place. The next opponent in the Champions League is Paris Saint-Germain.

FC Bayern overslept the first half

15,400 fans cheered on the German double winner, because after a win and a defeat on matchday 3, FCB were aiming for important points in the league phase.

But José Barcala’s team completely missed the first half. The guests took the lead in the 5th minute through Emily Fox. For a short time, FCB tried to defend itself against the deficit, but they lacked the necessary pace.

Arsenal dominate Bayern women

The Munich team also had to contend with the defending champions’ high pressing, which opened the scoring to 2-0 through Mariona Caldentey (25′). The Gunners remained the more dangerous team. The Bavarians showed respect for the defending champions and acted too timidly. The English women disrupted FCB’s build-up game early on, their balls ran precisely through the ranks – in contrast to Bayern. The 0:2 for Munich at the break was deserved.

Bayern women are suddenly back

Bayern came out of the locker room full of energy and appeared significantly more aggressive and alert. Arsenal were rarely able to break free from their grip. In the 67th minute, Alara, who had recently been substituted, scored the next goal. The 18-year-old coldly pushed the ball past the opposing keeper.

Bayern were back in the game – cheered on by the spectators, the Munich players tried to turn the game around. But Arsenal didn’t allow much – until the 80th minute. Pernille Harder made it 2-2 with a dream goal. Arsenal seem to suit the Dane – she scored a hat-trick in the 5-2 win last autumn.

And it got even better: Glódís Viggósdóttir scored the 3-2 winning goal after a long cross from Klara Bühl.
