Winter Games in Beijing – DOSB boss’s half-time Olympic balance sheet: “Successful days”

Beijing (AP) – The German Olympic Sports Confederation has drawn a positive balance after half of the Winter Games in Beijing. “These were successful days with very emotional moments,” said DOSB President Thomas Weikert.

With seven gold and four silver medals, Germany led the medal table ahead of Norway and the USA after 53 of a total of 109 decisions.

“It’s a comfortable situation when you’re at the top,” said Chef de Mission Dirk Schimmelpfennig. “But you shouldn’t overestimate it.” The DOSB doesn’t just look at the medal, but also at places four to eight: “And we’re not in first place there.”

At the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, Germany had won 31 medals (14/10/7) and was the second most successful nation behind Norway.
