Will we have riots again during the corona demonstration tomorrow? Journalist Ken Van Beversluys looks ahead in VTM NEWS | Inland

Belgium United For Freedom is organizing a corona demonstration in Brussels tomorrow. The movement puts forward a clear demand: the impeachment of the government. The manifestation starts in the afternoon at the Brussels-North station and ends this time at the Atomium. Will we have riots again like the previous corona demonstration in Brussels? Journalist Ken Van Beversluyt looks ahead in VTM NIEUWS.

The demonstration focuses on the request for the impeachment of the government. The organization again expects thousands of participants at this national demonstration. Last Sunday, a corona march, the European manifestation for Freedom, also passed through the capital. There were 50,000 participants. At the end of the demonstration, in the Cinquantenaire Park, violent riots broke out.

The organization Belgium United For Freedom declares that it is not against the corona measures themselves, but against the way in which they are implemented. She regrets that the government is not listening to the part of the population that does not want to be vaccinated. That’s why she takes action. A petition was launched to be heard in the House of Representatives.

Police preparing

The manifestation is scheduled to start at 12 noon at Place Simon Bolivar at Brussels-North station. From there it goes in the direction of Jules De Troozsquare, over Koninginnelaan and along Koninklijk Parklaan and Kunsenaarsstraat. Via the Emile Bockstaellaan and the Jan Sobieskilaan they arrive at the Eeuwfeestlaan and end at the Atomium.

The police hope for the best scenario, but are prepared for the worst. Normally, the demonstration would have moved to the European quarter, but last weekend’s destruction has not yet been repaired. The police are also convinced that they can better keep the rioters in check in an open area, such as at the Atomium.

Several hundred people were arrested during the previous demonstration. This mainly concerned administrative arrests. In the case of administrative arrests, people are arrested for a short time so that order can be restored. Then they are released immediately. A judicial investigation is underway against 91 people. One person is due to appear before the council chamber soon. Two underage rioters have meanwhile been placed in a youth institution.
