It is not a good winter for lovers of natural ice this year. The new year started mildly and in February the temperature hardly drops below zero. “February will not be an exciting month,” says Matthijs van der Linden of Weatheronline. “There is a good chance that this month will be warmer than usual again.”

February starts off mild with temperatures of up to ten degrees. Due to the south wind, it can also become quite warm for the year later this month. Anyone hoping for warm spring weather will come home from a cold fair. There is little chance that temperatures will rise above 15 degrees. “We need a deep southerly current from Spain and the north of Africa for that, and that doesn’t seem to be coming for the time being either,” says Matthijs.

In terms of rainfall, February is a bit more difficult to predict. “From the west, rain areas can occasionally visit our country. We could be approaching a very normal amount of precipitation of fifty to sixty millimeters in total.” As Matthijs said: it will not be such an exciting month in terms of weather.

We close the month of January in Zoetermeer with a strong wind. Storm Corrie keeps his house and makes himself heard in the west of the country. The month of February starts with less wind, but with wind force five to six you still have to pedal a lot on the bike. The first two weeks of February are mostly gray. With an average temperature of ten degrees, the middle of winter is not possible for us.
