Will Hertha BSC and Arne Friedrich split up?

The recurring speculations and rumors about the Bundesliga soccer club Hertha BSC have now also reached the management level. According to a recent media report, the continued whereabouts of sports director Arne Friedrich with the Berliners is far from certain.

The fact is that the current contract of the ex-national player with Hertha expires in July. The “Sports picture“now reported that the sports director has not yet been able to agree on an extension of the contract with the club.

The talks on behalf of the club are held by Managing Director Fredi Bobic, who has only been in office in this role since this season.

As the media report continues, Bobic definitely wants to extend with his former teammate. The two played together for the capital city club between 2003 and 2005.

However, according to the sports magazine, previous rounds of talks have ended with no result.

Arne Friedrich acts as a link between the coaching staff and management at Hertha BSC. He is thus much closer to the team than, for example, Fredi Bobic, who as managing director has been responsible for all personnel decisions at the ailing Bundesliga club for more than six months.

Most recently, Bobic had made the transfers of Krzysztof Piatek and Deyovaisio Zeefuik clear. Hertha BSC is only in 13th place in the table after a messed up season and is in serious danger of relegation.

Hertha BSC: Friedrich wants to keep options open

The 42-year-old Friedrich is said to have deliberately not signed any long-term contracts because he wants to keep further options open. The question remains, how long his superior Bobic can and will wait. For the sensitive position of the sports director, Bobic needs planning security and hopes for consistency in this post.

Another important person in the Berliners’ sporting responsibility is now squad planner Dirk Dufner, whom Fredi Bobic brought to Berlin last year.
