Minister of Justice Vincent Van Quickenborne (Open Vld) informed VTM NIEUWS that the legal instrument with which Dave De Kock (34), the kidnapper of the four-year-old Dean, had to be followed after his release, did not yet exist at the time. In 2008, De Kock assaulted two-year-old Miguel Van Kriekinge, resulting in the death of the child. The man was sentenced to ten years in prison, which he served in full.
