Werder Bremen | Managing Director Frank Baumann signs a new contract

Bundesliga relegated Werder Bremen has extended the contract with sports director Frank Baumann, which expires at the end of the season, by two years until 2024. This was announced by the Hanseatic League on Sunday, ending a stalemate that had been going on for months.

“We decided unanimously and with full conviction for Frank Baumann. Frank is also characterized by the fact that he always puts the well-being of Werder above his own interests and sensitivities,” said Marco Fuchs, Chairman of the Supervisory Board.

The current development, Fuchs continued, was not decisive in the decision of the control committee: “The sporting successes of the last few weeks have only played a minor role. For us, the focus is not on short-term results, but on the creation of sustainable structures.”

Werder on the trail after Werner’s arrival

After a mediocre start, the North Germans have been back on track since new coach Ole Werner was hired. All seven second division games were won with the 33-year-old on the coaching bench, and the Green-Whites are now in a promotion position.

Baumann, who has been Werder captain for many years and has been managing director since 2016, was optimistic about his further work at Osterdeich: “I appreciate the trust placed in me and look forward to continued constructive and critical support from the supervisory board.”
